It is with great sadness that the decision has been taken to close
Wonderland Sydney.
It is our intention to cease trading on April 26, 2004. The decision
was taken in view of consistent losses incurred and difficult market
conditions.
The challenges faced by the tourism/leisure industry over the past
few years… the Asian financial crisis, Sept 11, Ansett collapse,
War on Iraq, HIH collapse and the skyrocketing insurance premiums,
the Bali terrorist attack, the devastating bush fires, SARS
now the Asian bird flu have simply taken their toll.
Mr Stephen Galbraith, CEO Leisure Theme Parks Sunway Group said
today, “When we took over eight years ago, the park’s
future was uncertain. Since then, we have lifted the overall performance
of the park, completely rebuilt its image and brand awareness”.
Our efforts were recognised with Wonderland Sydney achieving the
major attraction award for Business excellence at the 2002 Tourism
NSW Awards and runner up in 2003. Recognition by IAAPA- International
Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions yielded two “Brass
Ring“ awards for outstanding marketing.
However all this has simply not been enough to sustain the operation.
The first priority is our staff. All appropriate leave entitlements
under their respective awards and agreements will be honoured. Wonderland
Sydney will also provide a range of initiatives to assist and support
staff in finding new employment.
For all general enquiries please call between 9am-2pm, Mon-Fri.
