Demon Failure

Original post

i was on the demon one weekend, (hah well nearly every other weekend), and i remember this young bloke who used to operate that ride, dunno if your here on the forum, but you were always there when i went, anyway, i never got to thank you the day i jumped on the demon and the train let go to early, you were so quick off the mark on the emergency stop. Im sure you stopped near disaster as we were high enough to get past the PONR, but not fast enough to get through the boomerang.

You blokes were bloody well trained i got to say that, thanks for making those rides safer, after being on this forum i realised that some of those rides were pretty hows it going for there age but fun none the less.

What was the Fault on Zoomerang’s First Day

Original post

HI,
The ‘Zoomerang’s First Day’ video in the vedeo section shows a fault at the end of the ride. What was the Fault on Zoomerang’s First Day? And what was done to fix it?. Did it ever fault at wonderland, if yes, what happened?

Subject: Re: What was the Fault on Zoomerang’s First Day
That day, do I really need to take myself back there? Well when the ride was being commissioned (read: every body running around in a mad panic) a glitch in the PLC was noticed by the elctrical contractor who was setting it up. It had something to do with the "lift chain not up" proximity switch circuit. Normally the PLC will not allow the train to commence a cycle if this parameter is not met ie: lift chain up ready to drive train up lift 2 but in this instance the fault I think was an intermittant one and would happen at any time. So switch is made train is allowed to leave station and then releases from Lift 1 goes back through station brakes (open) and makes it to the point of no return (Boomerang) and the PLC instructs hydraulic drive on the chain but chain is not up so fault. So it stops in the Lift 2 brakes – no biggy except when I was filming we were getting ready to go out for lunch and relax a bit after many days of hard work. We go down and release the brakes to equalise the train into the emergency unload platform and start unlocking foot pedals and getting pax out. Once all out we bring the winch cable down (electric motor) from the top of Lift 2 and attach it to the hitch point at the front of the train. So I stay down below and manually open the brakes and the ops manager for the park operates the winch at the top moving the train clear of the brakes then I can let go of the brake override switch. In a huge oversight or should I say over reliance I stayed at the bottom when I knew I should go up the Lift because we had employed this guy who was an utter hick fool (you had to meet him) calling him an imbo would be a compliment anyway he was the lacky who dragged the winch cable down so he walked up slowly beside the train until it was on the lift and engaged via the "dog" to the lift chain. They stopped the winch when the train was about halfway up the chaindive and unhitched engaging it to the chain. This guy (I choose to forget his name) acting like an irresponsible fool he was whilst the ops manager was winding the winch cable up and putting it away he was holding on to the hook end and Forrest Gump like waving and screaming down to who knows who (lunatic) instead of watching what the cable did (it was flicking side to side) I watch on in a exhausted-induced state knowing what was about to happen yet not having the energy to do anything about it. So of course he waves the steel cable past the prox sensor which tells the PLC "train is at the required height" and the lift drops releasing the train and because it was only halfway up the lift chain it a bit like me did not have the energy to make it to the station. So it ends up in the Boomerang element. That was a long afternoon/night I remember realising how pathetic the most advanced country in the world was when the ops manager and I were driving around town going to Walmart to try to find something to winch it out of the Boomerang. Unable to find much suitable we ended up using far under rated chain blocks and slings to get it out (about 11 hours up on the Boomerang in the scorching Alabama sun) and fireworks going off above raining down on us and the same guy (amazing I hadnt thown him off the side) up there howling like a dog to the fireworks arms upwards howling to the sky.(no joke)

What about the autospiel? Welcome to the Demon, the Demon is a high speed physical attraction involving rapid acceleration, deceleration blah blah

Comment 2 — Bussy

Yeah that’s about as much of the auto spiel as I remember as well thats why I didn’t put it in. I thought it had been permanently burned into my brain but thankfully I was wrong.
