Concerts and Celebrity Appearances

Australia’s Wonderland hosted concerts and appearances by touring and television performers throughout its life. This page collects material that does not belong to one of the park’s own shows.

The Sundown Theatre, a venue near Billabong Grove, staged John Williamson in concert on Australia Day (the programme below gives no year) and LeAnn Rimes’ Blue Tour concert, with special guest Troy Cassar-Daley, on Sunday 30 March 1997. The LeAnn Rimes concert was advertised during Kidzfest ’97 with adults admitted at children’s prices.

The photos from 2000 to 2002 show Bardot, Christine Anu, the Hooley Dooleys leaving their handprints, Kaylan, Sister2Sister, Scandal’us signing autographs and on stage, and Scott Cain.

The park’s promotional material records more concerts and appearances. Network Ten advertised a Neighbours family fun day with Alan Dale, Anne Haddy, Anne Charleston, Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Annie Jones, Guy Pearce, Stefan Dennis and Craig McLaughlin, from the cast of about 1987 to 1988. The 1991-92 Wonderpass flyer promised a Summer Rock ’n’ Roll Concert Series from January to March 1992 and the Circus of Thrills. A July 1992 ticket advertised the Coca-Cola Concert Weekends with Baby Animals, James Blundell, John Williamson, Sophie Lee, 2 Unlimited and LA Style. Coca-Cola presented Take That with Sexing the Cherry on Saturday 4 June 1994 from 5pm to 9pm, $19.95 including after 5pm admission. The 1995/96 flyer promised Michael Jackson HIStory pyrotechnic shows in July 1995, a Halloween Concert, a New Year’s Eve concert and Saturday night concerts in January 1996. The Halloween Dance Party of Saturday 26 October 1996 featured Kulcha, Human Nature, Kaylan, P.T.P. and Helena, “only $11.95 after 5 til midnight”. Carols at Wonderland was held on 20 December 1997 and a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza that year. Scandal’us gave their world premiere concert on Friday 4 May 2001 at 6.30pm, with VIP passes and a return coupon. The New Wonderland Sydney Performing Arts Challenge, “your chance to perform”, ran on 19 to 20 and 26 to 27 October 2002, and ABC for Kids characters appeared every weekend in June 2003.
