Stories & memories – Dinos Derby

Dinos Derby

Original post

Hey, It had always been my memory that Dinos Derby was an original ride at Wonderland. But looking at this pic here below it quite obviously was not. The first time I went there was season 86/87 and (despite me only being 6 years old at the time) I would swear that the ride was there (I am fairly sure I was too tall for it, but it didnt bother me cause it looked pretty pissweak) but I am sure I watched my brother go on it. Does anyone know when it was installed?

Wazza,
That photo does not aim to where Dino’s was, Dino’s is there – the fence can be seen on the left of the photo. As I remember there was a sizable gap between Dino’s and the little game stand (clowns in the later stages) enough to carelessy swing a vehicle around early in the morning!

There is no way that that is the fence of Dinos on the left. The ops position for the ride was right outside the toilets, (which are out of shot to the right of the pic just beyond the edge of the picture) Have a look at this aerial pic and you can see Dinos is directly opposite the small building that the guy is sitting on in the background in the original construction pic.

So if it was there, then you should be able to see it in the original pic.

Both of these photos are:
Huckleberry Hound’s Merry-Go-Round and
Boo Boo’s Balloon Race

Ok well Wazza you must be correct and me wrong as these two photos are from just prior to park opening and they show the garden bed that must have been a seperator between the Male and Female sides of the restrooms. This garden bed must have been wiped out to make way for Dino’s within the first year of operation – lets face it it would be an easy addition and maybe the ride was planned but delayed hence the garden bed with foundation under and with power to the light to make it an easy virtual overnight build. Also in the recently added HB construction photos if Dino’s was there surely there would have been a photo of it.

And upon much study of the photos the blue "fence" is actually a bin frame which the trash cans sat inside of, these were found all around HB and were the same material and style as tthe ride enclosures in HB.

I don’t remember which year it went in but i do remember insisting on them being sent to be sand blasted then i did some f/glass repairs and paint in 2 pac before installation, the origional floor was remade in checkerplate (i hated the look of it).

On the right of the pic is the Boo Boo’s Balloon Race. On the left hand side is the Mini Golf Course
