Goldrush – Australia’s tribute to the pioneer goldrush days – was one of the three original themed areas at Australia’s Wonderland. It hosted the park’s flagship ride The Bush Beast (the tallest wooden roller coaster in the southern hemisphere at the time), the Funnel Web, Snowy River Rampage, Ampol’s Antique Autos, Ned Kelly’s Getaway, Tasmanian Devil, Sea Demon (later renamed HMS Endeavour after relocation), Skyhawk (added 1991), Skyrider (1997) and others.
The construction photos collected here are dated 2 January 1985 and 21 January 1985 – captured during the early construction phase, almost a year before Wonderland opened on 7 December 1985. They show the area being prepared and foundations being laid for Goldrush’s pioneer-era buildings.
